NO fewer than 40,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have returned to their ancestral homes in Nasarawa State.
Executive Secretary, Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA), Mr Zachary Zamani-Allumaga, disclosed this to newsmen, yesterday, in Lafia.
Zamani-Allumaga said the IDPs were products of humanitarian crises ranging from farmers/herders crisis to communal crisis among others, displaced from their communities in 2021, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported.
He listed Awe, Obi, Doma, Keana, Toto and Lafia local councils as some of the areas that had recorded the number of the IDPs in the state.
According to him, 47,675 is the number of IDPs recorded across the state in 2021.
“Out of this figure, over 40,000 have returned home, leaving only few in their various camps across the state,” he said.
He lauded the state governor for caring for the IDPs and other citizens in the state.
“I must commend Governor Abdullahi Sule for giving adequate attention to the plight of IDPs in the state. He has provided relief materials to the victims of humanitarian and other forms of crises across the state.
“This has improved on the standard of living of the IDPs across the state,” he said.
Urging farmers, herders and other residents of the state to live in peace and tolerate one another, irrespective of their affiliations, the ES encouraged the people of Nasarawa to always expose criminally-minded people, especially the youth, for peace to reign.
