91-year-old professor who just became SAN, Oyewo dies in Ibadan

Ninety-one-year-old law lecturer, who was recently elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Prof. Ajagbe Oyewo, is dead.

The professor died after a week at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the University College, Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

It was gathered that the professor was admitted at UCH following a serious accident on his way to Owo few days ago.

At 90, the Professor of Law is regarded as the oldest lawyer to be awarded SAN.


He was born in his home town Erunmu, Oyo State, on January 11, 1932. His educational qualifications are LL.B (Lon don), 1960; M.P.A. 1973, M. Phil. 1983 and Ph.D., 1985.

He was called to the Bar in 1962 and is a member of the Lincoln’s Inn, London. He was expert in local government law and administration.

He served as an Administrative Secretary, Legal Secretary and Executive Secretary to a number of local government councils in the defunct Western State, among others.
