Don calls for research, innovation to boost education sector

Founder/Chancellor of Thomas Adewumi University (TAU), Dr. Johnson Adewumi has called for research and innovation to shape the future of the education sector.

Speaking at the KU8 Consortium of Institutions conference in Kwara State, Dr. Adewumi called for a shift from the traditional focus on teaching to the cultivation of research and innovation, with a keen eye on solutions to societal challenges.

Dr. Adewumi noted that the education sector is due for a transformative change, noting that it is important for brilliant minds to come together and shape the future of universities in the 21st century.

He stressed the need to replace the emphasis on degrees with a new paradigm focused on skill development.

The scholar called for collaboration and cooperation among the academia and leaders noting that the ethos KU8 embodies includes a united front in the transformation of education.

In his goodwill message, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja 11 tasked stakeholders in the education sector to emulate the ideals of KU8 Consortium of Institutions to improve of the sector.

Oba Ogunwusi, who was represented by Sooko (Dr) Kemade Elugbaju, said KU8 has laid a foundation for universities in other states to follow.

The conference brought together eminent figures in the education sector, organised private sector, industry leaders, royal fathers, erudite speakers, and other relevant stakeholders.

KU8 consortium of universities comprises eight universities in Kwara State, including: University of Ilorin, Al-Hikmah University, Kwara State University, Landmark University, Ojaja University, Summit University, Ahman Pategi University, and Thomas Adewumi University.
