NUJ to honour Nwifuru’s wife, commences medical outreach

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State Council on Wednesday said that as part of the activities marking this year’s press week, the union will honour the wife of the governor, Mrs. Uzoamaka Nwifuru, for her good works which have saved lives in the society.

The council also has commenced free medical services for members of the union and their family members.

The state chairman of the union, Comrade Samson Nwafor disclosed this at the secretariat of the union in Abakaliki, the state capital during a press briefing to kick-start this year’s press week.

He noted that the Ebonyi First Lady will be honoured by the state NUJ during its press week scheduled for October 3, 2024.

He said the event would be attended by personalities across sectors.

Nwafor said the theme of the 2024 press week “Journalism Amidst Economic Uncertainty” was informed by the worsening economic predicament of Nigeria which has badly retrogressed the growth and development journalists have witnessed in the Media Industry as a nation, before this time.

He described the press week as an annual event observed by journalists across the 36 states of the federation and FCT, Abuja, a period journalists take stock of their operations to know how they have faired in the year under review.

“We strongly believe that the Keynote Speaker, Dr Chike Onwe, who is a senior Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication EBSU, will do justice to this topic,” he said.
