Dr Soul is now Jussoul, a name change that mirrors his journey of artistic reinvention and his unique ability to bring pop, soul, and Afropop together in perfect harmony.
Jussoul, born Chukwuka John Okafo, grew up in Nigeria where his musical journey began at the age of 14 when he defied his father’s wishes by sneaking out to recording studios, nurturing his passion for music.

Despite familial expectations to pursue a medical career, Jussoul balanced his academic endeavors with his musical aspirations. He attended Ogba Primary School and Command Day Secondary School, completing his secondary education in 2011. He later enrolled at Avalon University School of Medicine in Curaçao before transferring to Caribbean Medical University, where he graduated in 2020.

In 2021, Jussoul gained recognition as a top 40 contestant on American Idol, captivating audiences with his soulful performances. That same year, he released his debut single, “Lucid Dreams,” followed by tracks like “Soul Fire” and “Under The Mistletoe” in 2022, and “Hard Love” in 2023.

February 2024 saw the release of “Love in the 90s,” a nostalgic track inspired by a couple’s love story from the early ’90s. The song charted on Deezer Nigeria, where it reached 1, and has garnered over 200,000 streams on music streaming services.

In August 2024, Jussoul unveiled his debut EP, The Younger Me, a seven-track project exploring themes of pain, healing, and triumph. The EP received critical acclaim for its relatable themes and universal appeal.
Throughout his career, Jussoul has opened for prominent artists such as P-Square, 9ice, Omah Lay, and Bella Shmurda, showcasing his versatility and commitment to his craft. He cites Tiwa Savage, Sam Smith, The Weeknd, Bruno Mars, and Giveon as his musical inspirations, seamlessly blending elements of soul, Afropop, and R&B in his work.
In December 2024, Jussoul announced his rebranding from Dr Soul, signifying a new chapter in his artistic evolution. He expressed that the change reflects a deeper connection to his music and a commitment to authenticity.
