Recommends immediate appointment of acting BoT chairman
The Abia State Working Committee (SWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday, during a meeting at its Umuahia head office, told journalists that it has expelled the former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, who is also the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), from the party with immediate effect.
The state Chairman, Elder Abraham Amah, said the expulsion was a sequel to Wabara’s alleged anti-party activity, including his call for the re-election of Governor Alex Oti of the ruling Labour Party (LP) for a second term.
Wabara was reported to have said that he did not speak for the PDP but for himself as a citizen of Nigeria. Recall that Wabara was earlier announced suspended from the party by the same Abia SWC. But the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, quickly voided in a statement.
In a statement released to journalists, the Abia SWC expelled Wabara after reviewing the findings and recommendations of its disciplinary committee. The statement reads in part: “After a thorough review of the disciplinary committee’s findings and recommendations regarding Adolphus Wabara, the SWC unanimously approved the recommendation and decided that Wabara be expelled from the PDP in line with Article 57 (3) and 59 (1) of the PDP Constitution 2017, which stipulate that an expelled member cannot exercise any rights and privileges within the party.
The SWC consequently recommended the immediate appointment of an Acting BoT Chairman by the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party.
The SWC statement, dated 25 February 2025, which was jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary, Elder Abraham Amah and Peter Nwaokonko, respectively, for and on behalf of members of the SEC, reaffirmed the state PDP commitment to upholding party discipline, stressing that all members must operate within the framework of the PDP Constitution (2017) as amended.
An Abia State High Court sitting at Obehie, Ukwa West Council, presided over by Justice LTC Eruba, had restrained Amah from the enforcement of Wabara’s expulsion. Wabara had, in a suit marked HUK/8/2025, sought to restrain Amah, the Defendant, from enforcing his said expulsion.
