Tosin Onikute leads AI training in Lagos to simplify artificial intelligence

AI has gradually evolved to be a part of our everyday lives as it presents itself in diverse ways which would help us live better and work smarter. Recently more than 150 people gathered together in Lekki, Lagos to learn about artificial intelligence (AI). Organized by Tosin Onikute, an expect with seasoned experience and knowledge in IT and Tech the event which was free was opened to anyone interested in learning about how AI works.

Riding off the success of a model of same initiative held at Oshodi Isolo Area of Lagos State this event was built specially to help more people in Lekki understand AI and start careers in technology. With the theme, “Getting Started with AI: Training Models and Writing Great Prompts”, Onikute explained AI concepts using simple language that everyone could understand. He further stated that, “AI training is like teaching a new employee. You show the examples until it learns to do the job with the information given. AI prompting is different; it is like asking an expert for help when you need quick answers.”

The 45-minute session delved into how to train your AI versus when to use existing AI tools. Attendees learned about how AI training works using data and examples, what makes a good prompt when interacting with AI, and real-world applications such as movie recommendations and spam filters. They also explored simple formulas for crafting better prompts and common mistakes to avoid.

Onikute’s volunteering effort shows how tech professionals are giving back to their communities. The event immediately changed how people think about AI. Before the session, many people believed AI was too complex for them to comprehend. They worried it was only for computer experts or people with special training. After listening to Onikute’s straightforward explanations, they realized that AI could be an integral part of their everyday lives.
