Nigerian online comedian, Mutari Hamidu, professionally known as Mktechnic, has shed more light on his choice of Hausa language to pass his message across to his teeming fans.
A graduate of computer science from Adamawa State, Mktechnic maintained that he chose to adopt Hausa language in an internationalised community on the internet space to encourage the younger generation to embrace their mother tongue.
With his culturally induced content, the 22-year-old said his vision is to deepen his mother tongue across the world, to build a special connection with Northerners, at home and abroad.
“I chose Hausa because it’s the language I grew up speaking, and it connects me directly to my people. Most of my audience understands Hausa, and I wanted my comedy to reflect our culture, lifestyle, and way of talking. Comedy becomes more natural and funny when I express myself in my mother tongue, and it helps me represent the northern culture to the world, said Mutari Hamidu.
Continuing, Hamidu said, “I understand that using Hausa might limit my audience to an extent, but I don’t see it as a disadvantage. In fact, it’s what makes my content unique. People love originality, and Hausa has its own flavour of comedy that connects deeply with my audience. Besides, laughter is universal, even if someone doesn’t fully understand the language, my expressions and actions still make them enjoy the content.”
Hamidu has proven to be not only a creative genius but also a deeply innovative entertainer who found the most effective tool of language to communicate with his fan base.
He is one of the few social media comedians from the north who is stealing the global spotlight with his hilarious videos. After five years as an online content creator, he boasts of almost three million followers on TikTok and Instagram alone.
It is routine to lean on the shoulders of those who have gone ahead, but Mktechnic forged his path not to derail from his unique approach to comedy.
“I would say I don’t have a mentor because I believe in creating my own identity and style. Of course, I watch other comedians for inspiration, but I rely mostly on my creativity and passion to grow in the industry,” added Mktechnic.
Fame and success attract good fortunes, one of which is the admiration of the opposite sex. However, armed with purpose and direction, the young and talented creator explaines how he deals with flirtations from female fans.
“I deal with advances by being honest and straightforward. I let them know that I value their support as fans, but am focused on my career and personal life. I try not to encourage anything that could be misinterpreted,” emphasised Hamidu.
