The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) and The Ability Life Initiative (TALI) have entered into a formal partnership to strengthen the implementation of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on September 10, 2025, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The agreement, according to both parties, is expected to translate existing legal provisions into practical measures that will improve the lives of millions of Nigerians living with disabilities.
Speaking at the event, Acting Director of Compliance and Enforcement at NCPWD, Ikem Uchegbulam, described the MoU as a milestone in the fight against systemic discrimination.
He commended TALI’s work in advocacy and pledged the commission’s full support for joint initiatives.
Co-founder of TALI, Prada Uzodimma, said the agreement would serve as “a roadmap for equity and inclusion.”
She revealed that the two bodies will kick off joint projects later this year, starting with a major initiative planned for November 2025.
The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Ayuba Gufwan, delivered the keynote address, urging all stakeholders to move from words to action.
“The Disability Act is not just a piece of legislation; it is a commitment to dignity and justice. Every word in this MoU must come alive in practice,” Gufwan said.
The signing was conducted by Gufwan on behalf of the commission, and by Prada Uzodimma and Oprah Uzodimma, Co-founders of TALI.
In her vote of thanks, Oprah Uzodimma described the partnership as a relationship that had “matured into a marriage,” highlighting the trust that has developed between the organisations.
The event ended with a group photograph of both teams, symbolising their shared resolve to deliver on the promises of the Disability Act 2018.
