Former Deputy National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has stated that the current administration should not be held accountable for the present woes confronting the country, noting that it is too early to blame President Bola Tinubu, having only spent one year in office.
George, who spoke in Lagos, said governance is not a hundred-metre dash race, noting that it was important for Tinubu to study the terrain of governance before his performance could be assessed.
He noted that the current crisis became complicated between 2015 and 2023 during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as the worst in Nigeria’s history since 1960.
“It was as if nobody was in charge of the country. The Nigerian state almost collapsed. Everything promised before the 2015 general election was observed in the breach by the Buhari administration.
“Despite that calamity, it is a pity that some Nigerians have come out to defend that administration, which ruled Nigeria for eight years.”
The Atona Oodua of Yorubaland, however, said it was important for Tinubu to tell Nigerians the true position of things in the country, saying this is not the time to play party or regional politics.
According to him, Nigerians have suffered enough and they want fast results, adding that it was time Tinubu rejig his economic team, as there are many Nigerians – from the North to the South – who can offer him economic advices that can turn this country around.
