Motorists and commuters were stranded for long hours on Tuesday in the traffic logjam along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, making it difficult for them to reach their destinations on time.
The traffic gridlock, which started around the Sagamu Interchange area of the expressway, spread towards Abeokuta, Kobape, Siun, Sagamu, and extended to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The congestion left motorists and commuters stranded, as some were seen taking motorcycles, with cyclists inflating the fare, to reach their destinations on time. Others trekked to areas where the traffic was lighter, in order to board another vehicle and quickly reach their destinations.
Confirming the incident to our correspondent, the spokesman of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, expressed the possibility of traffic congestion during the ember months.
Akinbiyi urged motorists and commuters to endeavour to take alternative routes to avoid the traffic logjam, saying that such a situation is expected as people were busy going to and fro, especially for business during the ember months.
“They should be patient and apply caution as TRACE, police and the FRSC are already on the ground and on top of the situation to resolve the traffic conflict,” the TRACE PRO said.
Meanwhile, two persons have sustained varying degrees of injuries in an auto crash that occurred at Fidiwo along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
Involved in the crash is a DAF Truck with registration number: FST746YK and a HOWO truck with registration number BAS222XA
Akinbiyi said that the cause of the accident was that the driver of the DAF truck hit the back of his truck because he thought the driver of the HOWO Dangote truck was dosing.
In other news, Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has explained why his administration prioritises road development across the Gateway State.
He cited the desire to strengthen the socio-economic status of the state and the economic significance of infrastructure as major factors driving these priorities.
He, however, reiterated his commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to every part of the state.
According to him, his focused administration will not be distracted by the rhetoric of armchair critics and fault-finders.
He also noted that the state had the longest kilometres of federal, state, and local government roads, which were in a deplorable condition when he assumed office.
He stated that his administration extensively consulted with stakeholders on the roads most vital to the economy to guide prioritisation.
He also mentioned that roads connecting the state to neighbouring states, whether intrastate, interstate, or those linking farms to markets, have been receiving attention.
Abiodun, who made this statement in Abeokuta, the state capital, affirmed that his focus is on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people and not on responding to unfounded criticisms from out-of-favour politicians.
