The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) is set to lead a strategic deliberation at this year’s Maritime Journalists Retreat, where industry stakeholders will gather to examine new technology-driven solutions for improving Nigeria’s trade environment.
The retreat, organised by the Maritime Correspondents’ Organisation of Nigeria (MARCON), will take place on December 4 at De Marii Hotel LFZ in the Lagos Free Trade Zone, Lekki. It will focus on the theme “Maximising Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Import and Export Trade.”
According to a statement signed by the Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, Paul Ogbuokiri, the FIRS will present a technical paper titled “Onboarding on the National Single Window Platform: A Step-by-Step Guide.”
The session will offer participants practical insights into integrating with the National Single Window, a platform designed to streamline documentation, enhance transparency and improve the efficiency of import and export operations.
MARCON explained that with the National Single Window Secretariat domiciled within the FIRS, the agency’s participation highlights its role in driving technology-enabled trade facilitation and supporting government efforts to modernise revenue and compliance systems.
It added that the retreat comes at a critical time, as the National Single Window is expected to become fully operational by the first quarter of 2026. The session will provide a platform for the FIRS to guide stakeholders on the onboarding process and clarify compliance requirements.
Beyond the technical presentation, the retreat will expose maritime journalists to digital tools and policy frameworks shaping Nigeria’s evolving trade landscape. Participants will have access to practical use cases and expert-led analyses aimed at strengthening their reportage and improving engagement with the industry.
The event is also expected to deepen collaboration between the media and regulatory agencies, promoting accurate and development-focused reporting that aligns with national efforts to build a more competitive and technology-driven maritime sector.
