Before stepping into the MTN Next Afrobeats Star stage, Lucky Yay, believed in his talent. Though he often wondered how far this would take him, he pressed on. Today, following the inaugural season of the competition, that uncertainty has given way to confidence as the emerging artiste continues to build his career with renewed conviction.

Reflecting on the experience, Lucky Yay says the competition transformed the way he views his career.

“The journey has been a great one. Before now, I had the vision, but there was always this little cloud of doubt in my head asking; ‘Is this really possible?’ Now, the results have shown me that nothing is impossible,” he said.

That confidence has shaped the way he approaches his music. While his audience has continued to grow since the competition, Lucky Yay says his greatest motivation comes from creating songs that resonate with listeners and leave a lasting impact.

“It’s not just the numbers,” he said. “It’s the messages I get from people telling me how they relate to my songs. That makes me want to work even harder.”

For the singer, every song begins with intention.

“I want to make music that touches people. I want people to hear what I’m saying and see themselves in it,” he said.

The artiste also credits the competition with providing the resources and industry support needed to turn his creative vision into reality.

“Before signing the deal, I had the vision but not all the resources. Now I have the opportunity to bring those ideas to life,” he said.

As preparations begin for season 2, Lucky Yay hopes his story will encourage aspiring musicians to remain committed to their dreams, regardless of the challenges they face.

“Dreams do come true if you believe, have faith, work hard and put God first,” he said.
