Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has reportedly become the first African artiste to surpass 12 billion streams on Spotify across all credited appearances.

The milestone, reported on Monday, October 26, 2026, adds to the singer’s growing list of streaming achievements and highlights the international reach of his music catalogue.

According to music statistics account WizStatz, the figure includes streams from songs on which Wizkid is credited as a lead artiste or featured performer. This covers his solo releases, collaborations and guest appearances on tracks by other musicians.

Wizkid’s streaming success has been driven partly by collaborations with international artistes, particularly his appearance on Canadian rapper Drake’s 2016 hit, One Dance, which also features British singer Kyla. The song became a global success, introducing Wizkid to a wider audience and strengthening his international profile.

Another significant contribution to his global popularity is Essence, featuring Nigerian singer Tems. Released in 2020 as part of Wizkid’s fourth studio album, Made in Lagos, the song gained international recognition in 2021 following the release of a remix featuring Canadian singer Justin Bieber.

The record became one of the defining Afrobeats songs of the period, earning international chart recognition and helping bring Nigerian music to a broader global audience. Its success also demonstrated the growing commercial potential of collaborations between African artistes and established international performers.

Wizkid has continued to build his catalogue through releases and collaborations, including Ojuelegba, Joro and Come Closer, featuring Drake. His earlier releases helped establish his reputation within Nigeria before his music gained wider international recognition.

The reported 12 billion milestone follows earlier achievements in 2026. In January, the singer was reported to have become the first African artiste to reach 10 billion Spotify streams across all credits. He reportedly crossed the 11 billion mark in May.

The successive milestones reflect the sustained popularity of his music across different audiences and the growing international consumption of Afrobeats. They also underline the importance of streaming platforms in expanding the reach of Nigerian artistes beyond traditional music markets.

Although independent tracking platforms have yet to converge on the latest figure, the reported achievement further highlights Wizkid’s position among Africa’s most successful musical exports and the role of international collaborations in expanding the reach of Nigerian music.
