Abducted Edo PDP chairman regains freedom

The Edo State chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Tony Aziegbemi, who was abducted by gunmen near his home in Benin City has been freed.


Aziegbemi’s release was confirmed by Crusoe Osagie, who is the Special Adviser for Media Projects to the Edo State Governor.

A member of the family, Clem Aziegbemi, said the PDP chieftain was released unhurt.

“As a member of the Aziegbemi family, we say thank you all for your great show of love and solidarity with us all through the period of the abduction of our beloved son, brother, cousin, and leader, Dr Tony Aziegbemi,” Aziegbemi said.


“Thank you, all…. We are most grateful for all your valuable contributions through prayers and steadfastness. God bless.”

The former House of Representative member was trailed and abducted on the night of Friday, March 16, 2024 after his sports utility vehicle (SUV) was intercepted along Osaro Street, around 11:00 pm.

His abduction came just less than a month after his party (PDP) conducted a primary election for the 21 September governorship election in Edo State.
