Abia governor-elect to inaugurate Transition Council April 14

The governor-elect of Abia state, Dr Alex Otti, has named members of his Transition Council that will be inaugurated in Aba on Friday, April 14, 2023, preparatory to his formal assumption of office on May 29.


Otti in a statement issued on Tuesday in Umuahia, the Abia State capital appointed a Partner and COO, KPMG, Victor Onyenkpa as the chairman of the council.

The council will be co-chaired by Ifueko Omogui Okauru, a former Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

Also included in the list is the former Director-General of Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission, former Treasurer and Vice President of the World Bank, and currently a Director at FSD Africa, Arunma Oteh.

Other notable members are Prof. Ndubuisi Ekekwe, a Nigerian-born inventor who helped Apple design a semiconductor for the iPhone and Mr Uche Orji, the immediate past CEO of Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA).

Also in the Council are Mr Victor Okoronkwo, Group Managing Director (GMD) of Aiteo Oil and Gas, Mr Frank Nneji, Founder of ABC Transport Company; and Ide John Udeagbala, an Aba-based business mogul.


“Preparatory to our formal assumption of office on May 29, 2023, I named members of the Transition Council that will articulate a policy agenda for a new Abia.

“The Council, to be chaired by Victor Onyenkpa and co-chaired by Ifueko Omogui Okauru, will be inaugurated on Friday, April 14, 2023, in Aba,” Otti tweeted.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on March 22 declared the Labour Party (LP) flagbearer, Otti, as the winner of the Abia State gubernatorial election.

The INEC announced that Oti won 10 of the 17 local government areas (LGAs) in the state and polled 175,467 votes in the Saturday, March 18 gubernatorial election.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Okey Ahiwe, polled a total of 88,529 votes, while Enyinnaya Nwafor of the Young Peoples Party (YPP) came in third with 28,972 votes.

INEC’s state returning officer, Professor Nnenna Oti, declared Otti as the governor-elect, having polled the highest number of votes and having fulfilled the requirements to be named the governor-elect.

Meanwhile, ahead of the May 29th swearing-in ceremony, a section of Abia state stakeholders are already putting finishing touches to ensure the smooth swearing-in ceremony of Otti.
