Abia police boss urges govt to transform volatile areas into productive hubs

Abia State Commissioner of Police (CP), Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, has recommended that the state government transform some identified criminal and illicit activities’ locations in the state into productive hubs.

Onwuemelie said this after inspection and assessment of volatile areas in Umuahia North Council Local Council of the state to check crime, in the company of the council’s Chairman, Victor Ikeji.

They visited the bicycle repair workshop behind Okigwe Park, in Umuahia, the state capital, and the former Ohuhu motor park. Both adjoining locations have been identified as hotspots for illicit activities, which pose significant challenges to public safety and security.

Stressing the rationale to transform these locations, the CP said that the state can foster a safer environment, conducive for economic growth and development.

He said: “Abia State Police Command remains committed to collaborating with local council authorities and other stakeholders to implement effective security measures by addressing root causes of crime and implementing strategic interventions.”
