Abia State government charges market leaders on revenue generation, fire prevention

Worried by the rising spate of fire incidences and declining internal revenue generation, the Abia State government has tasked newly appointed leaders of various markets on vigilance and creative ways of revenue generation.

Speaking, while inaugurating the new leadership in Umuahia, yesterday, the state Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, informed the market leaders to key into the developmental agenda of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.


It would be recalled that Ikpeazu recently appointed new leaders for various market committees in the state to ensure safety and close working relationships with the government.

At the brief inauguration ceremony at the State Secretariat, Umuahia, Kalu charged the committee members to discharge their duties efficiently and avoid imposing unapproved levies on traders. He advised the new to leverage the comparative advantage of the state in trade and commerce to enhance its economic viability.


He urged them to partner with the state government to deliver more dividends of democracy to the traders, warning that whoever was found wanting in the discharge of his or her duties would be replaced.

Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated market leaders, its President, Mr. Lucky Akubueze, commended Ikpeazu for the opportunity to serve and promised harmonious working relationship among the various market leaders to boost trade and commerce in the state.
