Abia Warriors, Enyimba draw as NPFL youth league zonal play-off begins

Enyimba of Aba rallied from one goal down to draw 2-2 with Abia Warriors in the opening game at the Enugu Zone of  Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) U-17 League, which began in six zones of the country on Thursday.


The match held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, saw George Bassey giving the Umuahia Warriors a 67th minute lead, but Enyimba eventually levelled scores as the teams settled for a point each.

Before the game, players of the participating clubs, including Enyimba, Heartland, Abia Warriors and Enugu Rangers, were thoroughly screened by a committee supervised by former Abia Warriors Chairman, Pastor Emeka Inyama, who is also the chairman of the NPFL Youth League.
 
After the Enyimba game against Abia Warriors, Enugu Rangers took to the field in the evening against Heartland of Owerri in the second game of the day. The match ended 1-0 in favour of Rangers.
In other games from the zones, Loboi Stars defeated Kwara United 3-2 in the North Central zone, while Plateau United hammered Niger Tornadoes 4-0.

In Southwest, Sporting Lagos and Sunshine Stars drew 2-2, while Remo Stars defeated Shooting Stars 3-2.
Bendel Insurance and Rivers United played out a 2-2 draw in the South South zone, while Bayelsa United beat Akwa United 1-0, just as the North East game between Kano Pillars and Katsina United ended goalless.
