Abiodun tasks New CP on fresh strategies against cultism, kidnapping

Dapo Abiodun

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has called on the newly deployed Commissioner of Police to the state, CP Abiodun Alamutu, to come up with new strategies in tackling cultism, kidnapping and other security challenges.

The governor made the call when he received Alamutu, in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. He said that though the state was peaceful, it was still grappling with cultism and kidnapping, hence the need for the police boss to devise new methods to overcome the challenges.

“As peaceful as we have been, we still have our peculiarity. The issues of cultism and kidnapping are what we continue to grapple with. We also have the issue of farmers/herders clashes although this has been tackled and it has subsided,” the governor said.

He said that as a man, who has served in different capacities and is familiar with the state’s terrain, the CP is expected to put his wealth of experience into play by working closely with other security agencies to achieve a more secure state.

“You have been here without any interregnum and served as deputy Commissioner of Police. I know you are going to hit the ground running. You know the state like the back of your hands and you know the challenges that will confront you,” the governor advised.

Abiodun disclosed that training would be given to policemen and other security personnel on how to fly drones, assuring that his administration would support security agencies so that the people and investors could go about their legitimate businesses without any hindrance.

Speaking earlier, Alamutu said he came to intimate the governor of his mission to rid the state of crimes, as given by the acting Inspector General of Police. He acknowledged the bad eggs in the police system, but assured that he would re-orientate his men to be civil so they could have the people’s confidence.

He, however, cautioned that he would not tolerate members of the public harassing his officers and men, adding that there would be dedicated telephone lines for people to lodge complaints against police infractions.
