The scheme is aimed at equipping beneficiaries with skills that can be applied at their level to improve their understanding and view of life, business, finances and environmental issues.
A statement signed by the association’s President, Adebisi Odeleye, said Project 50 Kids, which is a collaborative effort between AWEAA, U.S. Consulate Lagos and other partners empowered over 60 students.
Odeleye stated that the beneficiaries are students from 10 selected secondary schools escorted by their teachers, who also found the experience quite educational.
She said: “The programme emphasised the importance of entrepreneurship and equipped the students with valuable skills to monetise their talents. By nurturing their creative abilities, the students were encouraged to think beyond conventional career paths and embrace the possibilities of starting their businesses.
“The students underwent curated series of training that combined educational sessions, hands-on skill acquisition training and mentorship opportunities; they interacted with successful entrepreneurs and industry experts, who shared their knowledge, experiences and practical insights.
“The initiative not only empowered the students with entrepreneurial skills but also instilled a sense of self-belief, confidence and resilience. Through engaging activities and mentorship, the students were encouraged to dream big, set goals, and pursue their passions.
“As the AWE Alumnae Association continues its journey of empowering women and fostering entrepreneurship, Project 50 Kids stands as a shining example of the transformative power of collaboration, mentorship, and opportunity. Through initiatives like these, the association, together with its partners, is paving the way for a brighter, more inclusive future for all.”
She added that AWEAA is the alumnae association of the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), a United States of America White House initiative that gives enterprising women the knowledge, network, and access they need to launch and scale successful businesses.
“The impact of Project 50 Kids extends beyond the programme’s duration. It has laid a foundation for sustainable change by inspiring a new generation of young entrepreneurs.
By equipping these students with the tools to pursue their dreams, the AWE Alumnae Association and the U.S. Consulates, alongside the participating local schools, dedicated facilitators and volunteers, have set the stage for long-term economic empowerment and community development.
