Factional Ohanaeze Ndigbo, yesterday, said they will back decisions of G-5 governors, led by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, on any presidential candidate they would be endorsing for this year’s presidential election, pleading with Nigerians to accept their choice to move the country forward.
In a statement in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, factional Secretary General of Ohanaeze, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, noted that the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation would accept there choice, because Nigerians have seen Wike and others as heroes of democracy, whose intentions are to present a preferred presidential candidate with competence and capacity to bring back the country’s lost glory.
Ohanaeze thanked the G-5 governors, especially Wike, for standing firm for the people of Nigeria to ensure that injustice against Southern Nigeria by People Democratic Party (PDP) does not stand.
The statement reads: “Ohanaeze has called on Nigerians to accept the choice of G-5 governors in their bid to present a “unifier and Southerner” as their preferred presidential candidate for this year’s general elections.
“Ndigbo have agreed that with the presence of three of our own in the G-5, we are confident that when Wike and others would announce their preferred presidential candidate, it would be based on competence and proven capacity to deliver.
“Ohanaeze, thanked the G5 governors, especially Wike, for standing firm for the people of Nigeria to ensure that the injustice against Southern Nigeria, as well as the gentleman’s agreement of rotational presidency between North and South is respected.
“The political manipulation of few politicians will never stand against interests of majority of Nigerians, who are waiting patiently for the G-5 London resolutions. “Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has proved that he will be a pro-Igbo Senator as the state has been declared the most peaceful state in the South East with zero violence and insecurity, and Ndigbo have acknowledged that Abia has a record of minimal violence, with no observance of sit-at-home in the last seven months.”
