Rivers State Governor Siminalaye Fubara

The advocacy group African Centre for Justice and Human Rights (ACJHR) has praised Governor Similanayi Fubara for approving contracts for the completion of four zonal hospitals across Rivers State.

The Rivers State Executive Council deliberated and approved N26,350,310,714.88 for the completion and renovation of Bonny General Hospital, the upgrade of Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Rumuigbo, and the construction of a new General Hospital at Rumuigbo in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

The zonal hospitals are located in Ahoada Town in Ahoada Local Government, Degema Town in Degema Local Government, Omoku Town in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government, and Bori Town in Khana Local Government Area. The State Government aims to strengthen secondary-level healthcare service delivery by completing the construction of these hospitals in the four Local Government Areas.

In a statement, Chukwudi Kenchez, the South-South Program Officer of ACJHR, commended Governor Fubara, stating that the completion of these hospitals is a significant step in addressing the healthcare needs of the people of Rivers State and other Nigerians. The group highlighted that Fubara has demonstrated his commitment to the well-being of Rivers people, noting that once completed, the hospitals will provide employment opportunities and reduce medical tourism.

“This is highly commendable. Governor Fubara in one year has proven that he cares about Rivers people and is ensuring that their yearnings are met through good governance. Primary health care is the cornerstone aimed at creating the conditions that improve the general health of the people, meet the particular needs of patients, families, and communities,” ACJHR stated.

“Our primary health care system needs to be innovative and driven, in such a manner that it emphasizes quality in service delivery. The yearning of the citizens is quality and affordable health care facilities across the country. With this approval for the completion and renovation of Bonny General Hospital, the upgrade of Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Rumuigbo, as well as the construction of a new General Hospital at Rumuigbo in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the State, Nigeria will gradually get it right in terms of health infrastructure,” Kenchez added.

The ACJHR’s commendation underscores the importance of Governor Fubara’s initiatives in improving healthcare infrastructure and service delivery in Rivers State, highlighting the positive impact on the well-being of the citizens.
