A’Court entertains EFCC’s alleged N80.2b fraud case against Bello today

Yahaya Bello
Arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of the immediate past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, for alleged N80.2 billion fraud at the Court of Appeal in Abuja, will be held today.

The move is to hear the appellate court’s application seeking to set aside the interim injunction granted by the Kogi State High Court.

Similarly, Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court (FHC), Abuja is to deliver his ruling tomorrow on EFCC’s request to effect substituted service on the ex-governor.

Justice Isa Abdullahi of the Kogi State High Court had, on February 9, 2024, granted an interim order restraining the anti-graft agency from taking any action against Bello pending determination of the substantive matter.

But the EFCC later approached the Court of Appeal on March 11, 2024, asking it to set aside the order.

HOWEVER, chieftains of All Progressives Congress (APC) have rejected Bello’s “unjust persecution.”

Chairman, Tinubu Media Support Group (TMSG), Jesutega Onokpasa, at a press briefing, described it as an utter travesty of the former governor’s “unjust prosecution in the court of public opinion as against the court of law,” adding that it is a “coordinated witch-hunt against a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and a former governor of one of the states of this country.”
