Activist tasks S’East govs on revival of moribund industries, job creation

An Enugu-based activist, Uche Okoroafor, has asked the Southeast governors to revive moribund industries and create jobs, saying that doing so would win back the confidence of youths in the region.

Okoroafor stated that it was terrible how, under the watch of successive governments, manufacturing industries, owned by the public, have continued to die, stressing that the development was breeding discord among the people.

Speaking in Enugu, yesterday, he stated that the direct impact of the development is lack of employment, which, in turn, breeds insecurity and other social vices.

He said: “We are not making any progress despite the quantum of allocation and other revenues our leaders receive monthly. There is no manufacturing outfit in the Southeast you could say belongs to the public. All that successive governments inherited have gone moribund.

“That is why our youths have become restive. A good number of them have left the region to other regions, because they want a better living. But the governors can win back the confidence of these youths by creating jobs. When they have something meaningful to do, they will stay out of crime and this will ensure peace in the region.”
