Adamawa clamps down on illegal export of building materials

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has ordered security agencies to tighten border controls and stop the illegal export of building materials.

“I have directed all security agencies to intensify surveillance and stop the illegal ferrying of building materials across our borders,” Fintiri said on Thursday evening.

Fintiri said the illegal export of building materials across international borderlines was contributing to the price surge and hurting the country’s economy.

The governor also warned that the vehicles used for illegal transport would be impounded, and perpetrators would face prosecution.

“Let’s work together to combat this menace,” he urged.

Adamawa, one of six states in the northeast region of the country, shares an international border with Cameroon to the east.

Within Nigeria, it shares borders with Borno to the north, Gombe to the northwest, and Taraba to the west and south.
