Five professional hunters are presently cooling their heels in the custody of the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly torturing a 14-year-old teenager.
The hunters, according to statements issued on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Suleiman Nguroje, were arrested on 5/6/2024 for the unlawful arrest and torture of a 14-year-old teenager.
The hunters were said to have descended on the teenager, whom they accused of stealing N20,000 in the Maiha Local Government Council area of the state.
Condemning the hunters’ actions, the Commissioner of Police, in the statement, warned members of the public to urgently desist from taking the law into their own hands.
The hunters, who at the time of filing this report are currently under investigation, will be arraigned before the court as soon as the investigation is completed, the police commissioner said.
In a related development, the command has arrested two drug dealers who, according to the police, deal in both hard drugs and Indian hemp.
The duo, identified as Bilyaminu Yarima, aged 25, and Halilu Saidu, aged 38, both hailed from Yola South.
While Yarima was said to hail from Toungo Ward, Saidu, as gathered by our correspondent, hailed from Anguwan Bako, both in Yola South.
According to the PPRO, both suspects were nabbed at the Yola South market, where they were alleged to have been selling illicit materials.
Like the arrested hunters, Yerima and Saidu, the command said, will no doubt be compelled to appear before the court for their illicit activities.
The arrest, according to the command, demonstrated its commitment to clamping down on those who feed off illicit business, as well as those making life cumbersome for the good people of the state.
