Adegoke’s remains dumped in a shallow grave, witness testifies

Adegoke
An environmental health officer from the Ife Central Local Council of Osun State, Mr. Fatai Adebowale, yesterday, told an Osun State High Court, Osogbo how the corpse of Timothy Adegoke, a postgraduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, was buried in a shallow grave.

Adegoke was allegedly murdered at Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Ile-Ife, where he lodged.

The owner of the hotel, Dr Rahman Adedoyin and six of his workers are standing trial before the court in connection with the alleged murder of Timothy Adegoke.

At the resumed hearing of the matter before Justice Adepele Ojo,  Adebowale told the court that environmental health officers got approval for the burial of the deceased from the Chairman of Ife Central, Hon. Eluyera, added that they got N20,000 from the council for the burial exercise.

He said the corpse was already decomposing when environmental health officials got to the site,  where Adegoke’s body was dumped.

He said the body was wrapped with a carton and tied with ropes when they got there.

The environmental health officer, who was led in evidence by the prosecuting counsel, M. O. Omosun, said the Divisional Police Officer at Moore police station in Ile-Ife, put a phone call across to him to inform him that there was a corpse found at Ile-Ife/Ede Road and that they should go and clear it.

He said some labourers were engaged to dig the shallow grave, where the decomposing remains were buried.

He added that he took photographs of the corpse with his Techno Android phone and that he couldn’t get a professional cameraman because of the safety and sensitivity of the situation.

During cross-examination by the defence counsel, Adebowale explained further that rope was used to lift the body of the deceased into the shallow grave dug beside the point he was dumped.

He said the deceased was wearing a red T-shirt when it was found at the site.
MEANWHILE, the eighth prosecution witness, one Olawole Felix Akinola, could not testify because the defence counsel raised an objection that Akinola’s name wasn’t listed in the proof of evidence before the court and that the prosecutor was yet to bring an application for the witness.

Ruling on the objection, Justice Adepele Ojo asked the prosecution to make a necessary application before Akinola could give evidence and adjourned a further hearing on the matter till Monday.
