Adeleke bags Asiwaju title, marks 64th birthday with pomp, pageantry

Vows to bring transformative changes to towns, villages

It was a gathering of distinguished personalities across all walks of life in Ede town, yesterday, during Governor Ademola Adeleke’s chieftaincy installation and his 64th birthday anniversary.


In recognition of his achievements in his hometown, the Timi of Edeland, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, honoured the governor with a chieftaincy title of Asiwaju of Edeland.

The governor’s late elder brother and former first civilian governor of Osun State, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, was the last holder of the title. The dignitaries include former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, his Ogun counterpart, Dapo Abiodun, former governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuff; Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, among others.

The event was filled with pomp and pageantry, as security operatives were deployed to protect people.Adeleke, who thanked the monarch for counting him worthy to have been bestowed with the Asiwaju title, vowed to be an outstanding frontliner who would “carry the light of positive transformation from towns to villages and from cities to rural areas” across the state.

The governor, after accepting the title and dedicating it to his late brother, Isiaka Adeleke, and other notable family members, said: “I vow to be a frontliner (Asiwaju) of development and growth for Edeland and Osun State as a whole.”

In his remarks, Makinde congratulated Adeleke and commended him for his developmental strides in the state. Also, the Ooni of Ife appreciated dignitaries that graced the occasion for the show of love and solidarity for Adeleke, just as he lauded the Timi of Edeland for honouring the governor with the chieftaincy title.

Others felicitated with him and urged him to continue in his efforts at transforming the state. Meanwhile, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee for the installation ceremony, Senator Olalere Oyewumi, said the decision to confer the Asiwaju title on Adeleke was an acknowledgement and recognition of his contribution to the growth and development of Ede and Osun State at large. He stated this during a media briefing at the Timi of Ede’s palace.
