Prof. Moji Adeyeye has been reappointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
Adeyeye’s reappointment was announced on Thursday after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved leadership changes in the health and social welfare sectors.
According to a statement signed by the president’s spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu has made the changes with a focus on enhancing healthcare standards and service delivery in Nigeria.
Ngelale added that the changes are in furtherance of the president’s determination to bring world class standards to the Nigerian public health administration.
They are also meant to manifest his commitment to deliver affordable and quality care to all Nigerians under governance and regulatory frameworks commensurate with international best practices.
“President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment and reappointment of the following Board Chairpersons and Chief Executive Officers under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare,” Ngelale wrote.
Dr. Mansur Kabir has been appointed as the Board Chairperson of NAFDAC, and Prof. Abba Zubairu is the new Board Chairperson of the National Blood Service Commission (NBSC) which has Dr. Saleh Yuguda as its new CEO.
Other appointees are Prof. Afolabi Lesi as Board Chairperson of Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), while Chief Executive Officer is Dr. Fatima Kyari.
Pharm. Wasilat Giwa is the Board Chairperson of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), while the Chief Executive Officer is Pharm. Ibrahim Ahmed.
Dr. Babajide Salako is the Board Chairperson, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), while the Chief Executive Officer is Dr. Tosan Erhabor.
Prof. Adamu G. Bakari is the new Chief Medical Director/CEO of Moddibo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola (MAUTH), and Prof. Reuben Eifediyi is the Chief Medical Director/CEO of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua (ISTH), Edo State.
Furthermore, as part of efforts to bolster the resiliency of Nigeria’s public health surveillance and security architecture, Ngelale said Tinubu approved the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer for the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to assume office on February 19, 2024.
The new Director-General/CEO of the NCDC is Dr. Olajide Idris. Ngelale added that Tinubu painstakingly considered the wealth of experience of each qualified and aforementioned Nigerian.
He stated that they will be tasked with driving the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the sector, while Tinubu expects that the new leadership across this critical human development sector will substantially raise the standards of healthcare service delivery for the exclusive benefit of all strata of the Nigerian population.
Ngelale said Tinubu’s administration is committed to implementing a whole-of-government approach to transforming the sector to enhance aggregate national quality of life and productivity.
“Owing to the high cost of historical underperformance in the sector, the President anticipates the immediate and effective implementation of new policy frameworks to reposition the sector under the able leadership of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Muhammad Ali Pate,” he added.
