THE death of Ms Eniola (Olatunji) Makanjuola (also known as Mrs. Tunji Oluwa), a Barrister at Law has been announced. The sad event occurred on Sunday April 26, 2015.

She was born to the late Engr. A. Ayodele Makanjuola and Mrs. Christiana Adetoun Makanjuola on May 17, 1962. Ms Makanjuola is a product of St. Theresa’s College, Oke Ado, Ibadan. She graduated from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile Ife, with a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) in 1981.

She was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1982 having been certified as a Barrister at Law (BL). As a youth corps member, she served in Lagos State and lectured at the Nigerian Police College, Ikeja.

Makanjuola worked in various capacities over the years. She cut her teeth in private practice, served in chambers both in Lagos and Ibadan. She also held her own briefs. She served at Chief S. O. Moroundiya’s Chambers, Ikeja and worked alongside Justice Niyi Adebajo.

In his estimation, she stood out. He describes her as loyal and dedicated to the profession and her employers. “She joined the Chambers in her Youth Corp year, and applied herself to the work in a way that is unlike Youth Corpers,” he says. Makanjuola moved from the private sector into the public service.

She served as Senior Legal Officer in the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Civil Litigation Department at Alausa from 1987 to 1993. She then became Assistant General Manager (Legal Services) and Head of Litigation for the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC) till 2003.

She had worked her way up to this post having started there as Assistant Chief Legal Officer. She served the Corporation for a total of 10 years.

Her most recent appointment was as Company Secretary and Head of Legal Department at Odu’a Telecoms, Ibadan, a post she held between 2004 and 2009. She was a highly principled legal officer.

She had a strong Christian faith, which piloted her along life’s path. She was an amiable, vivacious, fun loving and creative individual. She read widely, had flair for words and for sewing.

She was good at creating soft furnishings and was passionate about interior decoration. She was known to be a diligent worker. She was a brilliant person as attested to by friends and professional associates. She was a dutiful and loving mother and a proud Ijesa woman.

She was married into the Oluwa family of Isale Eko to Jaiye Oluwa. She was buried on Thursday, May 7 2015. She is survived by her sons – Ohuntan and Segun, her siblings and relatives, including Mrs. Yejide Runsewe and Dr. Deji Makanjuola.
