Professionals, under the aegis of Association of Estate Agency of Nigeria (AEAN), National Association of Realtors (NAR) and other bodies, yesterday, reiterated their commitment towards promoting ethical practice, particularly in ending fraud, boosting bilateral relationships and inter-association capacity development through collaboration.

They also emphasised the need for practitioners to engage and educate those in authority to initiate and implement laws that would develop the housing market and make homes more affordable to citizens.

National Chairman of AEAN, Jatto Isah, said that the major challenges in the estate sector are fraudulent practices by some unregistered people, adding that the association is trying to bring sanity into the system through training and collaborations with international partners.

He said collaboration between local practitioners and international partners would bring a lot of positive things for the growth of real estate in Nigeria and other countries.

Also, the Second Vice President of NAR, Kelvin Brown, said realtors must endeavour to educate politicians on what to do as they lack the expertise on how the real estate industry works.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Governing Council, Real Estate Institute of East Africa, Agaba Vincent, says that the real estate industry is the anchor for economic progress in any economy as it contributes significantly to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

He, therefore, charged the practitioners to stabilise the industry by ensuring that the society respects the profession.

On his part, the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI) Africa & Near East President, Adeniji Adele, appealed to practitioners to effectively collaborate, exchange ideas, expand frontiers and take real estate to the next level in the continent.
