AFCON 2023: How we plan to approach game against Côte d’Ivoire – Iwobi

Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi has revealed how the Super Eagles plan to approach Thursday’s AFCON 2023 Group A fixture with Côte d’Ivoire.

The Eagles got their campaign off to a disappointing 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.

Up next for Jose Peseiro’s men is a crucial tie with the Côte d’Ivoire.

The Ivorians defeated Guinea-Bissau 2-0 in the opening game on Saturday.


On the team’s goal and how they plan to approach the game on Thursday, Iwobi said: “Our goal is to go all the way especially when you see the sort of players we have and their ability we all feel we should be able to make our nation proud.

“We have to give our 100 per cent at the start of the next game, hopefully we can make history.”

The last time the Eagles faced Côte d’Ivoire was in the quarter-finals at the 2013 AFCON in South Africa.

Emmanuel Emenike and Sunday Mba were the scorers for the Eagles, who went on to be crowned AFCON champions.
