AFCON 2023: I want to give Nigerians something to remember, says Osimhen

Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has said he desires to give Nigerians something to remember at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.

Osimhen was instrumental in the Super Eagles’ 2-0 win against Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in Saturday’s round of 16 clash.

His constant pressure on the Ivorian defence led to the opener scored by Ademola Lookman.

The Napoli striker has only scored one goal in four games played at the tournament.

Speaking after the win against Cameroon, Osimhen expressed his desire to achieve with the current Eagles squad.


“I want to win something with this great squad,” he was quoted on Osasu Obayiuwana’s X handle.

“I want to give Nigeria something that they will remember. I’m giving everything to come home with the [AFCON] trophy.”

Friday’s quarter-final tie will be the first time the Eagles will face Angola at the AFCON.

The Angolans reached the quarter-finals after defeating Namibia 3-0 at the weekend.
