The Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, on Tuesday said the goal of the team is just to beat South Africa and qualify for the final of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Super Eagles of Nigeria made it to the semi-finals of the 2023 AFCON which is currently taking place in Cote d’Ivoire following a hard-fought 1-0 win over Angola last Friday.

Ademola Lookman’s first-time left-footed finish in the 41st minute courtesy of a world-class assist from Moses Simon gave Nigeria victory in the quarter-final of the tournament.

Peseiro spoke to reporters at the pre-match press conference ahead of the game which will see Nigeria trade tackles against the Bafana Bafana and said their only mission is to win.

“Until now, we have shown good spirit, good organization, good demand, commitment as well as sacrifice and we play as a team. Our goal is just to beat a good team like South Africa,” Peseiro said.

Peseiro also spoke on Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen who missed the Super Eagles’ trip to Bouake on Monday night ahead of their AFCON 2023 semi-final game against South Africa.

“Until now, I can not answer right because it is about his health. This afternoon, I can know better if Victor can play or not,” the Portuguese tactician said about Osimhen.

According to a statement on the Super Eagles’ X handle, members of the team traveled from Abidjan to Bouaké via a 10pm Air Cote D’Ivoire flight.

“Victor Osimhen did not, however, make the trip as a result of an abdominal discomfort,” the statement read.
