After fire incident, monarch laments activities of ‘miscreants’ at National Theatre

National Theatre, Lagos

The Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom, Oba Abdulfatai Oyeyinka Aremu, has bared his mind over the December 30, 2023 gas explosion that affected a section of the National Arts Theatre, Iganmu, urging the Federal Government to return the land to his family.

The Oba, who visited the scene to assess the level of damage, said: “I got calls about the fire incident on Saturday night and I decided to visit to assess the situation.

“Getting here, I discovered that it was a gas explosion, which was not taken care of. They don’t need to use gas in this type of place due to security risks.
“There are so many government properties within this area, and this place is not meant for gas or the kind of occupants.
“The Federal Government took this place from my family for public use and not commercial use. If the government is no longer using the place, it should be returned to my family because we didn’t collect a penny from them. They should return it, to avert such problems within the community.
“It would have been worse than this if the Lagos State Fire Service had not come here to control the situation.”

Asked the next line of action, the Oba said: “My family will write to the Federal Government because what we are seeing now is not the reason they took the place initially. Miscreants are everywhere in the area, and it’s not the best.”
