AGN solicits Rivers govt’s support for late Junior Pope’s family

Junior Pope

River State chapter of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and Nollywood practitioners, yesterday, paid a solidarity visit to Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, seeking support for the family of late Precious Chimaobi Ofurum, popularly known as Junior Pope, who is an indigene of the state.

Ofurum was among those who died during a boat mishap while returning from a movie set recently.

Convener of the walk, Eric Stevenson, said that other states have reached out to claim their indigenes and offered support to the families while regretting that none has come for Ofurum.

He added that it was based on this development that they decided to notify the state government of the visit to bring comfort to the bereaved family.

Fubara, while responding, assured the actors that a deserving honour would be given to Ofurum. The governor, who was represented by the Head, Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, said that it was their visit that brought to the knowledge of the state government that an indigene of the state was one of the victims.

Fubara commended the Nollywood practitioners who have demonstrated enviable solidarity to one of their own, which suggested that the 26-year-old Ofurum was distinguished among them.
