• Ogun, FG plan to put infrastructure in Tongeji Island
• Gov mulls establishment of Naval Base in state
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has said that the agro cargo airport being constructed by his administration will be ready for use in November. He equally disclosed that the project, when completed, would provide no fewer than 25,000 jobs for the people of the state.
Abiodun, who gave the assurance during the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial meeting for Ogun East Senatorial District in Ijebu-Ode yesterday, noted that the construction of the airport, which commenced in March 2022, would probably be the fastest constructed airport in the continent.
MEANWHILE, Abiodun has said the state is collaborating with the Federal Government to put in place infrastructure in Tongeji Island to make the residents of the oil-rich Island feel development as Nigerians.
He disclosed this when he received the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Yakub Wambai, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The governor, while informing Wambai of his desire to visit the Island to see things for himself, said he had on several occasions discussed the issue of the Island with the President and other relevant authorities on the need to make the people feel the presence of government in the area.
He, however, reiterated his request for the setting up of a Naval Base at the Olokola Seaport, adding that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) have indicated interest to establish their presence at the state’s cargo airport, which according to him, is undergoing construction with the first phase ready for commissioning on the second quarter of this year.
Earlier, Wambai said apart from assessing the condition of the Navy Secondary School in Abeokuta, his visit was to also look at ways security could be improved, taking into consideration recent happenings in the country.
He, however, commended the management of the school led by Commander Jacinta Asetubo and charged the school’s Steel Band and other students to balance their character with learning.
