Eulogies have continued to pour forth as capital market stakeholders, led by the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group), yesterday, held tributes and a closing gong ceremony in honour of former President of the Council of the exchange, the late Abimbola Ogunbanjo, who died recently in a chopper crash.

Dignitaries present at the event include Chairman of Coronation Group, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede; Chairman, Honeywell Group, Oba Otudeko; Former Chairman, NGX, A.B. Mahmoud and Publisher of The Guardian, Lady Maiden Alex-Ibru.

Aig-Imoukuede extolled the virtues of Ogunbanjo, especially his remarkable achievements and efforts towards ensuring the completion of demutualisation of the Exchange.

“There were those who expressed worry as to how we would complete the demutualisation and I thank God that we celebrated the demutualisation of the Exchange with Bimbo as the President of the exchange,” he said.

Also, Group Chairman of NGX Group, Dr Umaru Kwairanga, who assured the family of the deceased that the capital market community would ensure that his legacies are sustained and improved upon, said: “The tributes we had today had demonstrated the kind of person Bimbo was. We are part of the family and I want to assure the family that the legacies Bimbo left behind would be sustained and improved upon.”

Group CEO of NGX Group, Temi Popoola, echoed the sentiments of admiration and gratitude, highlighting Ogunbanjo’s unwavering dedication to the Exchange’s success and seamless leadership transitions.

Otudeko shared poignant recollections of Ogunbanjo, portraying him as an adroit gentleman whose simplicity, brilliance and doggedness were instrumental during the demutualisation process.

However, on behalf of the stockbrokers, the Doyen of capital market, Yusufu Rachidi, said: “It is indeed a sad time for members of the stockbroking community to receive the family of Bimbo few months after we gathered here to pay homage to the departed father.

“Bimbo was a good and determined man. “He was optimistic about the demutualisation of the Exchange and it was a task he followed to completion. We are happy today that his optimism about the demutualisation was justified today.” He prayed God to grant his soul eternal rest and give the families the fortitude to bear the loss.
