Air Force students ‘torture’ junior colleague to death

The Assistant Head Boy of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Secondary School in Kaduna, Felix Blaise, has been allegedly tortured to death by senior colleagues.

Blaise’s family and church called on NAF authorities and the government to ensure justice was served.

The Guardian gathered that the tragic incident occurred within the dormitory of the school at the Air Force Base in Mando, Kaduna.

Blaise, a 15-year-old student, was found dead under circumstances that his family and church community allege involved severe bullying and torture by senior students.

He was reportedly summoned by his senior colleagues under the pretext of punishment but was allegedly subjected to torture and harmful treatments that led to his death.

The remains of the student have been deposited in a mortuary.

Blaise’s family church, Lux Terra Chaplaincy, Abuja said, the young student was electrocuted to death by two yet-to-be-identified SS3 students.

A member of the deceased’s family Mr. Paul who spoke to journalists in Kaduna on Sunday said the victim was an orphan who lost both parents in 2013.

He said the management of the school and the Nigerian Airforce must honour the late Assistant Head boy by intensifying efforts to unravel the circumstances that led to his death.

The Lux Terra Chaplaincy church in Abuja, where Blaise was an active member, also weighed in, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

The church described Blaise as an intelligent and brave student who had supposedly risen above bullying.

“It has been a very, very painful time for us at Lux Terra. Please we ask you, dear colleagues, to highlight this in your conversations and reports this week,” the church said in a statement.

“Bullying is real! And this happened to us. The Air Force say they are investigating so we await the reports of this.”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Air Force authorities said the incident is being investigated to unravel the circumstances that led to Blaise’s death.

NAF spokesman, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet in a statement said the “NAF family are saddened by the painful and unfortunate incident of the untimely death of one of our students at Air Force Secondary School, Kaduna on 19 Jun 24.

“To avoid all sorts of speculations, a thorough investigation is currently ongoing to unravel how, why and what actually led to the death of the victim.

“Rest assured that this matter is receiving the utmost urgency it deserves, and we won’t rest until it is unraveled.”
