Governor Umo Eno

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has fulfilled a campaign promise by releasing an additional N2.7 billion for gratuities and leave grants.

The amount, which is for the payment of gratuities to retired workers and leave grant for primary school teachers, brings the total amount the governor has approved for these purposes in his first nine months in office to N14.7 billion.

Governor Eno had previously authorized the release of N12bn for the same purpose.

The breakdown of the latest allocation, according to a statement made available to The Guardian by Ekerete Udoh, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, shows that N725 million is for the 2023 Leave Grant for primary school teachers, N500 million for gratuities to retired primary school teachers, N500 million for the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), and N975 million for gratuities to retired state civil servants.

This initiative is expected to bring significant relief to retirees and serving workers, especially during these challenging economic times.

Governor Eno has been commended for his commitment to worker welfare and his people-centric approach to leadership.
