Akwa Ibom PDP chairman reportedly die of COVID-19

The state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Akwa Ibom, Udo Ekpenyong has been reportedly died of COVID-19 complications.

Ekpenyong, the immediate past Commissioner for Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs and currently the state Chairman of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) reportedly died in the early hours of Tuesday.

There is yet to an official report on Ekpenyong’s death from his family, PDP or the government at the time of filing this report.


PDP spokesman in the state Borono Bassey could not pick his calls for confirmation as at the time of filing this report.

It was gathered that the late PDP chairman has not been seen in the public for quite a while now raising concerns that he may have been receiving treatment at the isolation centre.

This would be the second high profile death associated with COVID-19 in the last one month in the state after the first indigenous military governor of the state, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga died on Christmas eve from COVID-19 complications.
