A video had on Wednesday good viral showing a male and one female suspects paraded naked by a mob for allegedly killing two persons, a man and a lady for money rituals in Ihiala.

Spokesperson for the Command, Ikenga Tochukwu, in a statement, yesterday, said it was not a case of ritual killing, but a pure incident of murder.

Tochukwu also said reliable information revealed that the victims, a man and a woman, who were humiliated and paraded as shown in the video by the angry mob were erroneously accused as they were seen at the scene where the murder took place.

He said: “The Command operatives at about 10:00a.m. on Wednesday, July 7, 2023, rescued two victims and a suspect who were about to be lynched by an angry mob at the Total junction, Ihiala.

“Both the suspect and victims are currently receiving treatment in the hospital, while the deceased’s body has been deposited in a morgue”.

He said that the state’s Commissioner of Police,  Echeng Echeng, has sued for calm and ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka,  for a comprehensive investigation.

Tochukwu promised to communicate further developments on the matter.

However, a source from Ihiala, who pleaded anonymity said the suspects, a man and his female accomplice, were arrested by some people for killing the two victims.

He said the suspects who claimed they are in Yahoo-Yahoo business had confessed that the man and woman were killed for rituals.

The source further said that the Yahoo-Yahoo guys disclosed that a native doctor asked them to provide some human body parts for money rituals, but were arrested in the process by a vigilante group.
