“Last week, our flags were at half-staff and this week, diplomatic corps members sign a condolence book for our 3 colleagues and 4 police escorts who perished in the senseless attack in Anambra on May 16,” the US Embassy tweeted.

“Though we mourn, we are thankful that 2 of our colleagues came home safely.”

Anambra State Police Command last Friday announced that two of the remaining victims abducted during the attack on a US convoy along the Atani/Osamala Road in Ogbaru Local Council of Anambra State ware rescued unhurt by joint security forces.

Gunmen along the Atani/Osamala Road had ambushed the convoy of a team of officials from the Lagos Consulate of United States of America and their police escorts, killing seven persons while two were declared missing.

The victims who were on a humanitarian mission in the state were ruthlessly shot dead during an ambush.

The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the arrest of two persons suspected in the attack while the US said in a statement signed by Secretary of State, Antony John Blinken condemned the killing of its staff.

The United States affirmed its commitment to the people of Nigeria to assist in the fight against violence and insecurity.
