Anambra begins enumeration on ownership of shops to tackle revenue leakages

The Anambra State government will begin enumeration on ownership of shops to tackle revenue leakages across the state.

Under the arrangement, traders would be enumerated using their Anambra State Identity Number (ASIN), rather than relying on error-prone line-by-line collection of revenue in markets and street trading centres.

Chairman of Anambra State Board of Internal Revenue Service (AiRS), Greg Ezeilo, who spoke through his media aide, Blaize Emeh, said the measure will address non-remittance of payments to the revenue office and eliminate fraud in the system.

Recall that Odera Market in Awka South Local Council of the state was sealed and later unsealed, last Thursday, on the grounds of non-remittance of levies to state coffers.

Speaking after the sealing of another market (Umuokpu Timber Market), yesterday, two days after the reopening of Odera Market, the Unified Hybrid Enforcement Team of AiRS for Anambra Central, said the enumeration would end the ugly experience at Odera Market, where traders claimed they paid through their chairman, but were not issued receipts for years.
