Anambra CP tasks 83 newly promoted police officers on professionalism

Anambra State Commissioner of Police (CP), Echeng Echeng, yesterday, charged the 83 newly promoted police officers of the state command to redouble their efforts towards fighting crime and exhibiting high level of professionalism.

Echeng, who gave the charge while decorating the officers with their new ranks at the Force Command, Awka, also urged them on cordial relationship with members of the public and respect for human rights to ensure adequate protection of life and property of Anambra people.

He said their promotion was in line with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alkali Usman Baba’s resolve to boost the morale of police officers for effective service delivery, adding that their new offices come with greater responsibility, dedication and discipline at their various duty posts.

While congratulating the officers on behalf of the IGP, Echeng prayed God to grant them the grace to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the force and realise IGP’s vision for the Nigeria Police.

“Our problems are peculiar. You were not promoted to go to sleep. You were promoted to work to secure life and property on a 24-hour basis.

“Those who think they can go to sleep should be ready to do their jobs alone. You have to supervise subordinates in enforcing discipline. At that level, your character and dedication will come into play,” he said.

He explained that the newly promoted police officers include a Superintendent of Police (SP), who was promoted to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), 15 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) elevated to Superintendent of Police (SPs) and 67 Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASPs II) promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP I).

Some of the promoted officers, including SPs Stephen Ewa, Joy Yusuf and ASP Mike Ugwu, who commended the IGP and the Police Service Commission (PSC) for finding them worthy of the elevation, pledged to put in their best in the discharge of their duties.
