Recommends use of data in planning
The lawmaker representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ejwusigo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chris Azubogu, has called for a synergy between the state and local councils to improve development in Anambra State.
Azubogu, who stated this at a meeting with National Assembly members and other stakeholders organised by the Civil Rights Concern (CRC) in collaboration with Justice, Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) in Awka, Anambra State, yesterday, said that working together would bring much infrastructural development even at the grassroots level.
Besides, he urged adequate data collection, saying: “If we have enough data, states will have proper data to drive functional healthcare system, education, good roads and so on.
“We have tried to create opportunities for states to adopt. I have worked with people who are ready to co-operate. Government should have synergy with the National Assembly members. There should be synergy between the government and states and others to create development in Anambrs State.
“Anambra State is blessed with enormous human resources. Over time, we have not really tapped fully into our resources. What are we doing to engage the communities? By the time we synergise, we would have moved a long way.
“There should be ways of plugging leakages to ensure that actual revenue generated gets to the state government. Communicate with the people by engaging the stakeholders.”
He stressed that manpower is derived from the content of education, while the right leadership is needed to take initiative and drive the country.
Earlier, the Executive Director, CRC, Okey Onyeka, said a baseline survey was undertaken and the findings were validated in key sectors of Anambra State socio-economy, including education, health, agriculture and public utilities.
“The findings of the survey have guided the thinking and development of activities to increase and improve the level of services available to stakeholders in various livelihoods and especially the poor and the vulnerable in community life”, he said.
He disclosed that National Assembly members from Anambra State had been making great contributions in their communities, adding that the sustainability will be better assured as the people readily take ownership for sustainability.
“The state government will equally see it as a complimentary effort and contribute to the sustainability in its current expenditure where this is needed,” he added.
