AP dissolves state exco for endorsing Makinde

The national leadership of Accord Party (AP) has dissolved all its executive members in Oyo State, who endorsed Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as its preferred governorship candidate for March 18, 2023 elections.


In a letter signed by its National Chairman, Muhammad Nalado and sent to the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu; and others, the AP said that the state executives in Oyo State had been dissolved for anti-party activities.

Nalado said the dissolution of the executives, which takes immediate effect, formed part of the decision reached during an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja on Wednesday.

Also, the Elders’ Forum of the party has called on the electorate to disregard the news making the rounds that the party has collapsed its structure for PDP and APC.

The elders, in a statement made available to journalists by Sanjo Akanmu, urged lovers and admirers of the party never to adopt Makinde or Folarin in the forthcoming governorship poll.

Meanwhile, some supporters, yesterday, staged a walk in support of Makinde.

The crowd included youths, teachers, civil servants, traders, artisans and motor dealers, among others.

In another development, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State, yesterday, said it had adopted the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Teslim Folarin, as its preferred candidate for the governorship election.

The party said it reached the resolve after an emergency state congress held in Ibadan, the state capital.

Also, a former House of Representatives Majority Leader, Mulikat Adeola-Akande, who is the leader of the SDP in Oyo State, yesterday, collapsed the party’s structure for Folarin.

It was gathered that candidates and major stakeholders have been asked to go to their various localities to campaign and team up with APC members to ensure victory for the governorship candidate.

The leaders of the party any moment from now would make public announcements on the development.
