The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) has inaugurated a six-member coordinating Governors committee chaired by the chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state.
Other members of the committee were Governor Mai Mala Buni (North East), Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak (North Central), Governor Uba Sani (North West), Governor Bassey Otu (South South), and Babajide Sanwoolu (South West).
Uzodinma particularly pledged to strengthen the party in the South East geo-political zone which falls under his sphere of influence.
He promised to galvanize support for the implementation of the implementation of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu renewed hope agenda throughout the country.
Expressing gratitude to the Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje led national working committee (NWC) for reposing confidence in the committee, he assured that he would work towards entrenching an all inclusive system in the party whereby there would be a reward system for loyal members of the party.
Ganduje justified the inauguration of the committee saying it was aimed at ensuring that the party remain functional at the length and breath of the country.
He explained that the move to embark on electronic registerstion of members of the party and establish the progressives institute was in tandem with the quest to reposition the party.
He added: “When we were inaugurated in August last year, we promised that it would not be business as usual. Political parties should not be there just for the purposes of winning election and then therafter become dormant.
“We want our political party to be active throughout the year. All our offices should be functional and operational from ward , local and state levels. This cannot happen by chance. There must be some converted effort. We need to have a precise number of party members and demographics data like age , sex, location and their professional leaning.
“In politics you need to target a particular population, project our success state by state and this cannot be done off- head. We need education to do that. That is why coming up with institute of progressive institute to educate our members on our guidelines, manifestos and constitution of the party. The APC must have an identity and ideology.”
The terms of reference to the Governor Uzodinma led coordinating governors committee entails: Coordinate the Governors of the Zones to always identify and participate more on the activities of the Party. Initiate periodic interface between the Governors of the Zones and the leadership of the Party.
It includes to liaise with the Party to commence immediate process for genuine reconciliation of aggrieved Party members in the Zones. Mobilize Governors of the Zones to effectively and physically participate in Party activities within and outside the zone, Consult with Governors of the Zones on issues that will further enhance the progress and unity of the Party within the zone, to assist the Party on Resource Mobilization within the Zones.Participate in any other activity that may be assigned by the Party.
