APC chief faults FG’s sharing formula, promises to seek review

Senator Bassey Otu of All Progressives Congress (APC) from Cross River State has bemoaned Federal Government’s exclusive lists.
Worried by low finances, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chief in Cross River State, has frowned on Federal Government’s exclusive list and its sharing formula.

Senator Bassey Otu, who is the governorship candidate of the party in the state, flayed the list and formula, saying they do not, in any way, favour the state and called for a review.

While presenting his 35-page manifesto to newsmen in Calabar late on Monday at the Ernest Etim Bassey Press Centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Otu said: “We shall seek to ensure a sustainable and efficient management of our mineral resources. We shall seek political solutions to the reposting of our state as an oil-producing state; we shall follow all legal procedures in pursuing and ensuring the return of our 76 oil wells and the review of the exclusive list and derivative sharing formula for the benefit of our state.

“We lost our oil wells due to poor negotiations by the PDP government. It pains to the bones of our generations and the rest to sit and watch what is ours, given out on a platter of gold.
“We would do our beat to look for it, we would get it back. That party, again, kept quiet as if they never knew what was going on, and handed over Bakassi. We couldn’t fight for our own ancestral home, we cannot sleep with our eyes closed anymore; we would demand for our right. Whether they like it or not, we would demand for our right.”

On agriculture, he noted that the administration of Governor Ben Ayade has done much on agro industry, saying: “We are going to consolidate and put emphasis on agriculture to improve on agro industries. We will ensure free education and promote medical tourism. We will come out with an economic plan and ensure sustainable economy.”
